Complete Filling line For Specialist Chemicals, Airedale Group, UK
Airedale Group are a UK based manufacturer of specialist and commodity chemicals with over 200 products in their portfolio. The company was founded in 1973 and has always prided itself in striving to be more efficient for their customers while being able to deliver the same high-quality service. Due to this drive for efficiency Airedale wanted to introduce a Filling line that would be able to deal with extreme variation to allow for its Customers individual needs. The line needed to include a capper, labeller and ink jet coding that could operate in conjunction with the filler allowing them to increase efficiency.

The Challenge:
Airedale Group‘s customer base meant that it was necessary for their filling line to be able to cope with a variety of containers, ranging from 5l all the way up to 30L. The size of the fill was not the only issue here as some of the containers would also require Labelling on all four sides. As a result, adjustability was crucial for all machines connected to the filling line and it was important that this adjustability did not compromise the quality or level of the production.

The Solution:
Karmelle supplied Airedale Group with a bespoke filling line comprising of a fully automated four-head flowmeter filler. In order to work with the variety of containers that would pass through the machine, our design team made adjustments to allow the spacing of nozzles to be altered when changing container size gating position can be moved to complement nozzle position. Additional modifications were also made to allow the software to control the dive and volume of the product that was to be delivered.
Karmelle’s EK40 meant that the line was able to cope with a variety of different Cap sizes. The EK40 allows the height of the chuck to be adjusted using a pre-set in the software and change parts supplied for the different sized chucks. The bottle holding clamps used on this machine can also be moved backwards and forwards to ensure uninterrupted capping.
As Karmelle design and manufacture all their machines in house the labeller was also able to be designed specifically to meet Airedale Group’s needs. For this particular project a four head labelling system with pneumatic turning device was used. This allowed Airedale to label all four sides of the containers when needed.
