Like businesses everywhere, Karmelle has felt the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic this year. As a supplier to key sectors, we’ve remained fully operational, helping to keep production lines running and undertaking a range of new automation projects. It’s proved a challenge, and our brilliant team have adjusted to new ways of working. We couldn’t have done it without the support of our suppliers, partners and customers. Thank you!
Challenges of COVID aside, it’s been an eventful year at Karmelle. Here are some of our 2020 highlights – from new turnkey packaging lines, to new team members:
Projects:
The onset of the pandemic prompted a surge in demand for hand sanitiser, with manufacturers across the country rapidly increasing production. We helped our sister company, Liquipak, to fully automate its sanitiser bottling operation, supplying two turnkey lines in just 8 weeks. The equipment enabled Liquipak to fill, cap and label up to 50,000 units per-day.
And it wasn’t all about sanitiser. When an existing customer asked us to develop an end-to-end bottling solution for its artisanal oil products, we were delighted to assist. The producer needed a system that would fill and cap a range of cold pressed edible oils, dressings and mayonnaises, handling several different bottle variants and adding oil-based flavours and vinegars to some products.
Working closely with the customer, Karmelle’s engineers designed an inline filling and capping system, complete with a dosing station for the addition of flavours to its oils.
2020 also saw us undertake an ambitious project for a producer of gins, which needed to automate its bottling process. Our team delivered a complete turnkey line, comprising a rotary collection table, an air rinser, a 4 head filler, a rotary capper with ROPP and T cork station, a capsuler, a wraparound labeller and a rotary collection table. The system has since been installed in a custom-built production facility, and is undergoing commissioning.
Team:
The Karmelle team has grown this year, taking on talented newcomers and welcoming back familiar faces. There’s keen gardener Andy, who has brought a wealth of experience to our design office, and machinist Kurt, who joined the machine shop in April. We were also delighted to welcome back Claire, our jet-setting accounts assistant.
Karmelle’s fantastic staff members have given their all under the most challenging circumstances; some have spent time working from home, whilst others adjusted to social distancing measures in the workshop. Our team makes Karmelle what it is, and we’d like to take this opportunity to thank them! Learn more about our latest job opportunities here.
Looking ahead:
While we remain mindful of the challenges posed by both Brexit and COVID-19, Karmelle will be heading into 2021 with renewed optimism and a roster of exciting new projects. A growing number of companies are recognising the benefits of automation, and the positive impact machinery can have on production, profit margins and their workforce. Our engineers will be on hand to support them every step of the way.
We look forward to working with you in the new year!
